Breaking news

Phil Carson dad and coach of BYC winners Rebecca and Victoria has been in the USA working with the highly successful women's sabre team and their coach Ed Korfanty.

Phil has learned new techniques which he is using to good effect at his own club in London but he has very kindly offered to come and work with our sabreurs for 2 1/2 hours a day during the training week.

Phil tells us the style is radically different from the European one but as Ed Korfanty's fencers have won 36 world Championship medals in the last 15 years he must know a thing or two!

We think this is a fantastic opportunity for Scottish based fencers to come and work with Phil, an established and successful coach in his own right, and learn about the techniques that are proving so effective for Miss Ward and her team mates.

We would also like to thank Phil for the generous offer as he is giving up some of his holiday time to give Scots this opportunity.

There are some places left and the closing date for forms to be retuned is this weekend.

SUMMER TRAINING WEEK
“Death By Technique”
AUGUST 13TH – 17TH 2007

Ken & Lorraine Rose are pleased to invite you to attend their pre-season summer training week. This is an excellent opportunity to get ready for the new fencing season.

Ken Rose will be in overall charge of the coaching programme for the week which will include, Group Footwork, Group Bladework, Individual Lessons, Tactical & Competitive Sparring.  Every effort will be made to tailor the coaching to individual fencers needs. Ken will be assisted by Lorraine Rose and other assistant coaches. The week will concentrate on fencing technique and the application of good technique in sparring and competition fencing. There will be games and several prizes each day for the best and most improved.

CADET POTENTIAL PROGRAM

Congratulations to WFFC members Natasha Thomson, Jamie Fitzgerald and Callum O'Donnell who have all been invited to British Fencing's funded program for the top 6 cadets in each weapon.

The program will focus on fitness, footwork and coach support.  The aim is to raise the standard of fitness and footwork of the squad to match the best fencers abroad.

We wish them the best of luck with what will no doubt be a challenging program.

Congratulations also must go to Ken, his hard work with the fencers means that ONE QUARTER of the foilists on the program come from WFFC!

CAR BOOT FUNDRAISER

YOUTH SERIES ROUND FOUR

PLEASE NOTE THE DATE HAS CHANGED FROM THE ORGINAL PUBLISHED DATE TO THE 2nd AND 3rd OF JUNE 2007.

Entry form can be found HERE

The positions table for the Youth Series has been posted HERE after the third round of the series.

Congratulations to our “table toppers”

U12 Boys Foil Scott Brown, Iain Russell & Etienne Sadeghpoor 1, 2 & 3

Scott has won all three competitions so far so he will be the series winner no matter if Iain or Etienne or one of the Connors can stop his winning streak in round four.

U14 Boys Foil Andrew Harding, Casey Avril, Darren Brown & Scott Davidson 1,2 and joint 3 and following closely behind in 5th place Steven Russell. With only 4 points between the first and third place the series winner can’t be predicted so this should make for an exciting final round!

U14 Girls Foil Ruth Clarke and Ellie Coyle 1 & 2 and Zoe Sayers in 5th.

Ruth has won all three comps so far so she cannot be toppled from the number one spot but can she maintain the winning streak or can one of the others win round 4?

U14 Boys Epee – the whole competitions has only consisted of WFFC fencers so far so we occupy positions 1 to 7. However it is close at the top of the table and the eventual winner will be decided at round 4.

Andrew Harding, Scott Davidson, Jordan Euston and Iain Russell hold spots 1 to 4.

U14 Girls Epee Ellie Coyle 1 and Zoe Sayers 3. With only 5 points between 1st and 3rd place the competition is wide open and again will be decided at round 4.

U14 Girls Sabre Ruth Clarke 1.

Ruth is collecting titles this season she has a 27 point lead on her nearest rival and will collect the overall trophy – but can she win round 4 to make it a clean sweep?

U14 Boys Sabre Ruairi Mair, Darren Brown, Steven Russell 1, 2 & 3. Ruairi has a 26 point lead so will win the series title but Casey Avril won round three so can he Steven or Darren take the round 4 gold medal?

Looks like round four will be a very exciting competition although several of our fencers have sewn up overall titles some are still up for grabs - and will knowing they have won overall cause some of the competitors to relax and allow their rivals to win gold at round four???  Top spot is hard to get to but even harder to keep………….. watch this space for the final and exciting conclusion to the 2007 Youth Series.

COACHES GAIN LEVEL 2 QUALIFICATIONS
